Winning in football requires a tremendous amount of skill and a lot of luck. On Thursday night, the Mount St. Mary’s Men’s soccer team showed the they may have a little bit of both this season. The young side scored twice to earn the late 2-1 win over St. Peter’s College.
After a first half which saw both sides come close to gaining an advantage, Saint Peter’s took the lead early in the second half with Jaime Davis burying his free kick opportunity. But the Mount used their speed to disrupt the Peacock backline. In the 65th minute, Mount midfielder Alek Wroblewski worked his way through their defense and hammered a shot that forced goalkeeper Guillem Mecho to make an emergency stop. Mount forward Jesus Molina though was there to snag the rebound and net the equalizer.
The two sides were neck-in-neck for the remainder of regulation with tempers flaring on multiple occasions. Neither side though broke through, forcing extra-time. After just three minutes in the first extra period, the Mount walked away with the win with Jesus Salazar scoring the golden goal.
